It's amazing to think that at the time of this interview, over 40 years ago, there were no books on the history of rock 'n' roll! Barry Hansen, the future Dr. Demento, was blazing the trail. Unfortunately the book he was writing was never published, and has since been superceded by numerous other books on the topic. Later this year, he became Dr. Demento on KPPC, which took his career in a different direction.

Barry Hansen interview on KUOM - January, 1970

NOTE: This is NOT a Dr. Demento Show. This is a broadcast prior to him becoming Dr. Demento.
This interview took place in Minneapolis, MN around January of 1970. The exact date is not known. It is believed to have been on KUOM, the University Of Minnesota radio station. It's not known if it was broadcast live or pre-recorded.
The history he was writing for Rolling Stone did not end up getting published issue by issue as originally planned. Some of it appeared later in the book The Rolling Stone Illustrated History Of Rock & Roll, but most of it remains unpublished.

Keep in mind that in 1970, the "history of rock 'n' roll" covered all of fifteen
years....

Was reminded of this myself when my favorite oldies station played "Wildfire" by
Michael Murphey this morning...I won a poster for being the first caller who
could name the artist, back in 1981...the headline at the top of the poster was
"25 Years Of Rock and Roll"....r
