Many years ago I heard a record played on the Doctor Demento show titled
"Tale of the W.C." It was an old 78 rpm recording I believe. There is a male
voice telling the story of a young lady who had recently moved to town and was
asking various people where she could find the nearest W.C. What she was looking
for was the nearest restroom or outhouse. These were called water closets at one
time a long time ago. The term water closet was shortened to W.C. As the story
continues a preacher answers this ladys' request by writing her a letter. In his
mind he thinks that the W.C. she is asking about is the Wayside Chapel which is
a small church in the woods.
I remember very little of the letter he wrote but the comparisons between the
tiny church in the woods and the outside restroom were absolutely hilarious. I'm
looking for someone that can write down the contents of the letter he wrote back
to her. Thanks for your help.
