Was listening to a recording from another online streaming show and was
surprised to hear "Mr Custer" performed not by Larry Verne, but by Charlie "My
Boomerang Won't Come Back" Drake...very close to the familiar version, but a
different guess at what "the Injun word for friend" might be; I'm guessing the
word he tried was an inside Aussie joke....

Anyway, there's probably enough alternative versions of demented classics to
fill an hour or airtime, so I'm putting the idea out there for
consideration....r

There are enough parody and answer songs to "They're coming to take me away"
to fill a topic.

Freddy,
"they ain't got me yet..."

And Dr Demento *long* ago put together a medley of those....

Another one for my list, although the original version was non-demented: I was
listening to a British radio show called Richard Green's "Vintage Chart Show"
and they played a #3 song from 1962 by a Welsh singer named Maureen Evans (I
know, I never heard of her before either; the British charts were often very
different from ours) called "Like I Do"...I said to myself, that sounds just
like "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah"!...

Sure enough, same instrumentation and almost the same tune as Allan Sherman's
hit, but Evans did hers two years *earlier*...and it was a remake of an even
earlier American single by Nancy Sinatra that failed to chart on either side of
the Atlantic....r
